OPEN for humans
Open For Humans is a full-service design house conceived in Florida and located in Los Angeles’ Arts District. An artist and an architect collaborate to design, build, and make to their own devices. Through structure branding and experiential marketing, Open For Humans is redefining the human sensory experience in hotels, restaurants, workplaces, and public spaces with their Califloridian design sensibilities.

Melanie Ryan is a designer and maker for whom art has always been the greatest conduit for human connections. She is an art school dropout-turned-graduate of Florida’s Rollins College where she focused on Environmental Design. Melanie’s passion for aesthetics, responsible design, and the built environment has led to careers as both a gallery director and a brand strategist for a leading Southern California real estate developer. Open For Humans was borne out of Melanie’s desire to channel her artistic abilities and marketing know-how into a single, human-centric outlet.
Todd Sussman Asc. AIA, LEED AP, BD+C holds a Masters of Architecture and Graduate Minor in Urban & Regional Planning from the University of Florida. For over fifteen years, he has been designing world-renowned resorts, public installations, and major retail and restaurant locations, infusing renowned brand's retail spaces with a modern sensory experience. As a former adjunct professor of Architecture, Todd is also a thought-leader in the arenas of computer aided design technologies and drafting. With Open For Humans, Todd is applying architectural principles to alternative design realms.
